Miranda of Daris is in Press

I’ve spent the last several days going over the first edits of my new YA science fiction book, Miranda of Daris, with Maxine Bringenberg, editor at World Castle Publishing. It’s exciting to have another one in the works.

I wrote Miranda over a year ago, and I still like it, but I notice that my writing has matured a bit since then. I still have a tendency to “telescope” stories and need to keep working at slowing down the pacing. That’s one disadvantage of having been a journalist. We tend to get to the point entirely too quickly. Not everything is a Dr. Who marathon.

Meanwhile, I continue the search for a literary agent to represent my latest sf/fantasy novel.

Update: A new edition of Miranda is scheduled for publication in March 2018.

“First Pages” Workshop with Cat Rambo

This is the website of Juliana Rew, science fiction author and e-book editor/publisher.

I recently took a workshop with Cat Rambo and Caren Gussoff on revising the first pages of your novel to make the best impression on potential agents or publishers. Conducting the workshop over Google Hangouts, Cat and Caren read the partcipants’ submissions aloud and critiqued them on the spot, offering hundreds of worthwhile suggestions and answering questions.

I enjoyed the fast-moving format and came away with a lot of valuable tips for improving my particular novel, which is in the midst of revision. I can highly recommend the course. More info on Cat’s online courses is at Cat’s blog, kittywumpus.net/blog/.

“Love Is in Your Future” appears in Song Stories anthology

Song Stories Press has released a new anthology containing tales inspired by songs by Melissa Etheridge, entitled “Come to My Window.”

It contains my science fiction story, “Love Is in Your Future,” which was inspired by the song, “I’m the Only One.” A couple finds a way to be together, even though only one can live.

The print book is available on CreateSpace and the ebook for Kindle on Amazon.com.
